Do you ever wonder what’s up with the stars in the sidewalk of Hollywood Blvd? How in the world do they get chosen? Why bother? I’m here to shed some light.
Hollywood Walk of Fame
Believe it or not, there are over 2500 stars lining both Hollywood Blvd and also Vine St. A tidbit I didn’t realize…the stars honor not only movie and tv actors, but also, radio, live theatre, recording and the newest category, sports entertainment (I couldn’t figure out what this actually covered, but if you know, please share). Not really surprising, the stars are expensive! The cost is $50k to create, install and maintain. The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce holds about 24 induction ceremonies annually. In case you’re wondering, the selection panel is made up of fellow Walk of Famers and they make their selections each June.
Nominations and Recipients
And by the by, you or anybody can nominate a favorite celebrity if you’re feeling it. It’ll cost you $250 though and you’ll need a letter of agreement from the celebrity. Just sayin…
I was curious who recently received stars and here are some from the 2022 class: Michael B. Jordan, Regina King, Tessa Thompson, Jason Momoa, Byron Allen, Holly Robinson-Peete, Kenan Thompson, Tracee Ellis Ross, Marilyn McCoo and Billy Davis Jr., Ashanti Douglas (yes, Ashanti), Martha Reeves and Nipsey Hussle. If you want to figure out where a certain star is located you can search here.
If you want to go see a ceremony, keep in mind that the celebrity has 2 years after the date of selection to do it. They usually give 10 days advance notice, so when you figure out when you’ll be in Los Angeles, call the info line 323-469-8311 or check the press releases here to see who’s getting their star when you’re in town.
Share your picture with your celebrity’s star. Which celebrity would you like to see get their own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame?
Until next time…
May the road rise to meet you and the wind be at your back
