Disney Concert Hall

I absolutely love, LOVE the Disney Concert Hall!  It’s not just a beautiful building, but the programming they put on allows something for everyone, no matter what type of music or entertainment you’re looking for.  That area of downtown Los Angeles has a lot to offer in terms of theater, music and dance, but let’s just focus on the Disney Hall for now.

The hall is celebrating it’s 20th anniversary in 2023.  I can’t believe it’s been that long.  I remember when it was just a hole in the ground and I know that makes me sound old, but well… The crazy thing is I can’t remember what was there before, which feels weird because I feel like I should remember, but I don’t.

Disney Hall Options

If you’re visiting downtown and not interested in seeing a performance, you can simply take a tour of the facility.  They offer a free self guided tour which is about an hour long.  Be sure you check the start times to ensure you’re able to get in.  They have guided tours for those going to performances and these usually happen right before concert time.  And of course, they have the LA Phil Store where you can buy a memento of your visit.

Some of the performances on offer include the Los Angeles Philharmonic providing both evening and matinee shows.  There are jazz music offerings from the Brad Mehldau trio, to Herbie Hancock to Dianne Reeves to Arturo Sandoval.  For the dance/theater folks, they have flamenco and Fidelio.  The programming that many look forward to is the holiday line-up.  Chanticleer is coming back (I’ve seen them a couple of times and the music is really nice) and Pink Martini will help you ring in the new year.  If you want to flex your vocal chords, you can go to a holiday Sing-A-Long and really get into the holiday spirit.

If you ask me about my top attractions to see in downtown Los Angeles, the Disney Concert Hall is definitely in the top 3.  Check out their schedule of events, see if a tour fits into your visit and go check it out.  I can guarantee you’ll enjoy yourself.

Until next time,

May the road rise to meet you and the wind be at your back
