Before I completely lose you, MoAD stands for the Museum of the African Diaspora. It’s located in the heart of downtown San Francisco near Mission and 3rd. It’s close to Yerba Buena Gardens and SFMOMA (you can check out this blog post about these 2 here) if you’re feeling frisky, you can explore a number of places all in one day.
MoAD is a contemporary art museum and one of a few in the world that focuses solely on African Diaspora culture. The exhibitions range from fashion in art and photography to artists exploring the use of color in the form and content of their art pieces. Keep a look out for their event calendar as well. They have immersive in-person programs, artists discussions, literary and film programs.
MoAD is an example of why San Francisco is such a great city for art and culture. You can find all kinds of different museums that cover various types of art forms, various art subjects and all price points. You can find these museums in the diverse neighborhoods that make up the city of San Francisco. Take some time to explore the neighborhood after you finish in the museum. Definitely try and take time to eat at an outdoor cafe. You can do some shopping at any of the boutiques you may have passed on the walk to the museum. There is a lot to see and do while taking in some great art in this part of San Francisco.
Until next time…
May the road rise to meet you and the wind be at your back.
